English
Whenever we do a cosplay usually, we go with the dressmaker / seamstress or we do it ourselves, and then usually the lady (if appropriate to do so) gives you certain number of yards of fabric you should buy. Obvious as sometimes ask for a majestic dress so much (and sometimes very expensive fabric) we go for the cheapest and which has wider. That's why I decided to do a glossary of fabrics, as we sell at least here in Chile.
If you want to make a cosplay for which you admire, DO NOT USE SATIN! to other than it is too bright, not looking good as you take a photo. And do not use shiny fabrics, unless either vinyl or leather. (If you do not look like disco sphere .... trust me uu)
So here goes:
Poplin: The cheapest cotton. Used for blouses and dresses!
The width is 1.10 in Paris, but may vary in other stores (not Paris)
Felt: Used for accessories and decoration.
The width is 1.50, you reach for what you need.
Dubetina: Cotton pajamas and used to decorate things
Width 1.50 and 1.10 depending on color and where you buy it.
Tergal Strech: Used for all kinds of outerwear.
Width 1.50 in Paris, you used to skirts, coats, collars ect.
SARGA SCHOOL
width 1.50 m
I recommend it only and exclusively for school skirts, apart is not something synthetic and looks great in another garment type.
PELLON:
Width 1.50m
It is used to give a better look to waistbands or where grommets Ref. They also use it to make banners and stuff. The recommended for waistbands and eyelets is autoaderible pello, which sticks to the fabric if not when iron and so things will move.
PLAID:
Width 1.50m
There are all kinds of colors and shapes of squares, used for school skirts and jackets.
MASCOT:
1.50m or 1.10 depending on the store.
Fabric squares very small. It is used for skirts and dresses. The fabric is somewhat thin so I recommend using interlining.
Pet: cotton and polyester fabric.
Width: 1.50m in Parisian. Suitable for all types of clothing. Recommended use fusible skirts, because it transpires.
Gusset: Used under garments that are transparent.
Width: depends on the type of interfacing.
